This swim was in preparation for our first triathlon next weekend, The Simon’s Town Triathlon hosted by PTC. The beginner triathletes have been preparing for this race since January, and the sea open water swim was the last of our prep. Although it was a little chilly and rainy, once we were the water and beyond the seaweed it was actually beautiful in the sea. Nice rough conditions to get us used to the sea for next [...]

We are into week 3 of 12 now, and the Knysna Half Marathon runners are fully into the training. Over the last two weeks we have done hill climbs and repeats, long easy runs, strength work and social runs. Most of the runners are turning up to the sessions which is a great sign of commitment from them. Unfortunately the predicted 83% chance of rain this morning was correct, and we had to cancel the [...]

Today we practiced our triathlon transition training at the Sea Point pavilion pools. We are preparing for the Simon’s Town Triathlon on the 27th of May. So after a demonstration from the coach, STeve Attwell, all the Embark beginners set up their own transition area and put their wetsuits on. The idea is always to try to keep the group together so we swim for time instead of distance. We did 10mins of swimming, then [...]

In preparation for the Embark Beginner’s first Duathlon next weekend, we headed up to the quiet roads on Tafelberg Road and practised our transition from run to bike and from bike to run. Most of the beginners are still on mountain bikes. As the training increases, the trend is to move onto a road bike, especially as the distances increase. So practised laying out our stuff in transition and running though the race scenario. The duathlon that we [...]

Its their first half marathon EVER, and they all made the run with plenty of time to go before the cut off.
It was really a brilliant day out. Although my (STeve Attwell) longest argus yet, (8h15) the day seemed to go very quickly. So many people recognised Helen along and shouted support and kind words all day long. She made it to Simons Town absolutely no problem, and after an hour or so indulging in coffee, muffins and chicken strips from Wollies we hit the road again.
