The Investec Asset Management team in the Cape Town office have taken on the challenge of preparing for the historic and cultural Slave Route Challenge. It forms part of their corporate wellness program IAMACTIVE, and Embark is facilitating a 12 week coached group program coached by our Embark coaches and physio to get all the staff to the finish line on the 14th May.
The Slave Route Challenge event is more than a run (or walk) – it is a journey through Cape Town’s history and culture. Every participant will complete the event on behalf of one of the 8000 names on the Column of Memory at The Iziko Slave Lodge, thereby honouring a specific person from our history.
The staff have chosen between one of four routes that takes them past landmarks such as the Grand Parade, the Whipping Post, Old Slave Church and the Slave Tree Plaque. For the super fit, there is the 21.1-km half marathon program, and something less daunting for the 10-km run. For the casual entrants, there is a 10-km walk and a 5k-m fun run/walk as well, so we have facilitated a program for all four of those choices.
Keep an eye out for us on the day, but in the mean time we have 8 more weeks to go! Good luck everyone!
