Beginners conquer their 1st triathlon…

After 13 weeks of the beginners triathlon program, our beginners took on their first triathlon! This was the Discovery Cape Town Triathlon last weekend. It was a 500m swim, a 20km road bike and a 5km road run.

It was an amazing journey and experience for the ‘ordinary’ people, and we say ordinary as they definitely would not refer to themselves as triathletes when they began.  But, they buckled down and got into the weekly routine of training for the triathlon, and before they knew it race day was upon them.

With the help from the experienced and dedicated coaches, the athletes learned all about open water swimming, road safety and riding on the roads and running on tired legs. On top of that they experienced mock triathlons along the way to hone their skills for the 4th discipline of triathlon; the transition. This is the part where they change from the swim to the ride, and from the ride to the run. (if this is not practiced, you can cost yourself a lot of time on the race day).

Swimming, riding and running was the order each week. Week after week new boundaries were pushed and exceeded, goals were smashed and new ones made! New friendships formed as the athletes spent more time together, each week supporting each other for each new challenge. The transformation is incredible to watch, confidence and self-assurance doubled every week!

If you are interested in triathlon, and dont know where to start, EMBARK is the answer for you. Check in with us for the start of the next program and get involved. Now is the time!!
