The Gun Run Half marathon group almost ready…

For the past 11 weeks the new recruits, along with the returning Embark runners have been prepping for the Gun Run Half marathon. The Gun Run is a 21.1km road run that takes place on the 10th October in and around the Atlantic Seaboard. It’s a very popular running race and Embark offers a 16 week program for both beginners wanting to complete the race, and seasoned runners wanting to set and achieving personal bests.
Embark coaches four half marathon programs every year, namely The 2 oceans half marathon, Knysna half marathon, The Gun Run half marathon and the Bay2Bay 15km and 30km. We also accommodate runners for the Cape Town Marathon and the Knysna Marathon and this year we took a tour to Mauritius for the Mauritius Marathon and Half Marathon. Look out for the 2 Oceans Ultra program starting very soon, giving the runners 6 months to prepper for this ultra-marathon.
The group training is coached and progressive, and follows a good balance of training and rest. The sessions are varied, accommodating hill training, speed work, strength and conditioning and long easy weekend runs. There is ALWAYS a coach present in the sessions, and routes are carefully planned for enjoying and structure. You receive a weekly program where the additional sessions are prescribed.
The groups are fun and social and this keep progression and routine at a maximum. The athletes have endured the worst of the winter cold rainy and miserable mornings, and can now reap the rewards of spring training in warmer conditions and more light.
It’s not too late to still join in on the final few weeks of training. If not, then think about the Bay2Bay starting mid-October, and you can choose between training for the 15km or the 30km. Don’t be afraid or intimidated, Embark specialises in taking the beginner to the line and arming them with the confidence to call themselves athletes!
We have programs running on the Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Blouberg and Somerset West.
