Ironman 70.3 South Africa done and dusted…

An army of Embark athletes arrived at Buffalo City, East London over the weekend, to compete and  complete the Ironman 70.3 South Africa, and what a weekend it was. The group consisted of complete beginners that began the Embark Beginners Triathlon Training in January last year,  and over the year gained experience, confidence and fitness. In August the rest of the group joined in on the training, and at this stage a certain degree of fitness is required.  The athletes should be swimming 800m, riding 40kms and running 8km. (not all back to back though).

So over the last 6 months the athletes have transformed into triathletes, doing the races, upgrading equipment, getting the right kit, working on nutrition, making new friends and generally just improving their lifestyle. All this change for the ultimate goal of completing the half marathon and acquiring boasting rights at the next 20 dinner parties!

There are some amazing stories. Almost every athlete has a reason for doing this massive challenge. The SA 70.3 is in fact the second hardest 70.3 in the world, made even harder by the fact that the cut off times for the bike are most stringent because of the fact that the organisers close the NATIONAL HIGHWAY for us to ride on! What an experience to be going 85kms downhill in the FAST LANE!!

If you are keen to get involved in triathlon, then Embark is certainly the best way to initiate yourself. Browse around our site to see the various programs we offer and the different areas we offer them in. If you are interested, just get involved, meet some new sporty likeminded people and steer your life along a healthier route.
