Embark results at Slanghoek Triathlon…

There are 3 things that have you going ‘WOW’ when you race at Slanghoek:

1. The beauty of the venue
2. The heat on the run
3. The amount of Embarkers at the race

A head count of Dave’s North group showed that 44 of their 53 athletes were at the venue with 42 of them racing! Add the Towns group numbers to this and then you start to realise just how much of an impact we are making to the local racing scene! Big high fives all round!

The dreaded swim…

Conquering the fear of the swim has been the biggest challenge in our group this year. Everyone can swim the distance, no one will drown, no one will get hurt but still, just like me, we all fear the swim the most. It only takes the start gun to squash this fear though and a few post-race stories revealed that no one had anything to fear anyway! Were the organisers of a race to ever ban breaststroke or backstroke though, I do think we may have a few DNFs…

The ride…

Having rolling hills on the route was nice as it gave my group a little (very little) taste of what is to come in East London. I luckily got to start in the first wave so I got to see so many of the smiling faces on the bike. These smiling faces were still with the wind and going downhill… Wish I could have seen the faces while climbing into a slight breeze!

The run…

HOT! SANDY! ROCKY! HOT! SANDY! And… ROCKY! This run leg made sure that all finish line photos were of hunched over and depleted looking Embarkers! We cant have all the photos in the Facebook group be of happy smiling people otherwise outsiders would think Triathlon was easy?!

An awesome day out for all who competed. A great event to highlight strengths and weaknesses in each individual and with Jailbreak a few weeks away, it gives everyone some time to work on the weaknesses and perfect the strengths.

Biggest lesson learnt… APPLY GOOD SUNCREAM! So many flakes of skin floating in the water at the Canal Swim!

Here are the results for the Embark Triathletes:
