Steve trains Helen Zille to complete the Argus

It was really a brilliant day out. Although my (STeve Attwell) longest argus yet, (8h15) the day seemed to go very quickly. So many people recognised Helen along and shouted support and kind words all day long.

She made it to Simons Town absolutely no problem, and after an hour or so indulging in coffee, muffins and chicken strips from Wollies we hit the road again. She continued on her own, although now with the tandem in tow. She rode all the way to the Scrabourough when our doctor, Jureon Swart, recommended that she moves over to the tandem. She was suffering from upset stomach all day and with the heat of midday, dehydration was a big concern for us.

Once we were on the tandem (Andrew Wheelden from BEN was the one in front) Helen was able to rehydrate, update twitter and really enjoy the race from the back of the tandem. We made it over Chappies and Suikerbossie and headed into Green Point to the most amazing reception from the crowd EVER! I had been keeping Paul Kaye and Paul Valster in the loop as to our progression, so they were able to relay this to the crowds. When we crossed the finish that was by lined by 1000s of people, the noise they made for their Premier gave me goosebumps! It was an amazing feeling to have known that i had been part of this journey for her. Her progression over the 3 months we had trained was astounding, and she has definitely caught the bug of cycling!
