Embark sets off on the first ride of the season in glorious weather‏

Could we have asked for a better day to start our riding? I don’t think so. Perfectly windless, sun blazing and cloudless skies, now that makes for picturesque riding over Suikerbossie and Chapman’s Peak. Winter, ag please man!

Both the groups met at 8am in Camps Bay and those that needed a quick bike check came a little earlier. Thanks to our in-house mechanics (Matt and Mark) we had the bikes oiled, tyres pumped and brakes tightened in no time. The aim of the ride was to get 2 hours in the saddle on a round journey to Noordhoek, with a bonus coffee break at Cafe Roux to celebrate the first outing. It was amazing to see the array of bikes that the Embarkers pulled in on. A variety of mountain, road and hybrids were ridden and even more impressive was that the majority of riders got to Cafe Roux within the hour!

So ‘Big up’ to those that went over Chappies for the first time today! The bench mark of a 2 hour ride time has now been set and from now on we’ll try to improve on each ride. It’s important not to miss the next 8 weeks of easy riding so that we can get the road mileage into those legs. If you have any questions on the ride today or riding in general please leave a comment below.

So that’s it – Week 1 is done. Programs will be sent for Week 2 on Monday morning. Keep an eye on the website for regular training up dates.  BIG congrats to everyone today for completing the ride and the first week – onwards and upwards!
