Intermediate 70.3 Group Embarks on Swim Orientation

Getting ready for the swimming drills

Today the intermediate 70.3 group met their swim coach, Warren Deyzel to chat about the season ahead and how he aims to progress the swimmers toward their 70.3 goal. Warren is a provincial coach and specialises in open water swimming, just what the Embarkers need from the outset! The athletes were guided through the training program, with explanation on all terminology and a first look at some of the drills (Zipper Switch, Finger Tips, Catch up Freestyle, Board Tap, Stroke Extension) that the athletes will be expected to embark on during the session.

Once the talking was over, the Embarkers were straight into the pool for a 1.5km easy swim to experience some of the new drills. Top of the agenda today was balancing in the water and focusing on pulling and pushing technique. The next 8 weeks are heavily geared towards stroke correction, so it’s no wonder there was such a high attendance rate from the group to make a great start.

On Thursday 4th August, the beginners 70.3 group will embark on their orientation session. They will be following the ‘Beginners Progression Program’ that has been devised by Warren and will be delivered by Steve Attwell. Keep an eye on the site for weekly updates on the groups development!
