Embark went off-road for the Cape Cross TriathlonOctober 15, 2018
The Cape Cross Triathlon this weekend was definitely one for the books and WILL be an addition to our yearly racing schedule from now on.
The Embark off road team started training for the 3 day stage race in June. Coach Michael Reddington and the athletes explored trails and mtb tracks around Cape Town and the winelands to prepare for the 3 day event. All the Embarkies crossed over the finish line each dayand Congratulations to STeve Attwell for coming first in the Vets category.
Day 1 started on Friday with a 1km Swim in Theewaterskloof Dam then a 30km mtb over the mountains and then a 15km run to the Grabouw County Club. Day 2, was made into a duathlon, due to heavy winds, so instead of a 1500m swim we started with a 3km run instead. Then mtb: 25km, including the flowing A-Z trails, and then a 10km run around the dam, finishing back at the country club. Day 3 we packed up our stuff as the race ended in Somerset West. We swam: 1.5km at the dam, then rode to T2 very close to the top of the Old Wagon Trail. We then ran 8km almost all downhill to the finish at the Idiom wine farm in Somerset west.
Thank you to Adriaan Theron and the Cape Cross team for organising this weekend filled with amazing food throughout with full English breakfasts every morning and fillet on Saturday night! The athletes could even watch KONA live while relaxing on bean bags drinking wine!!
Next up for the Embark off-road Team is Lomond Triathlon mid December and Xtera 2019.
